To help promote literacy among students, Fort Bend Independent School District parents are taking part in the Latino Family Literacy Program. The program helps families develop reading routines with their children, build English language skills, and form a closer connection to their schools. In its third year of operation, the program is offered at six FBISD schools — Hodges Bend Middle School, Goodman Elementary, Mission Bend Elementary, Mission West Elementary, Ridgemont Elementary and Progressive High School. Participants complete two, 10-week sessions of a two-part comprehensive family literacy curriculum that introduces them to new vocabulary, verb conjugation, grammar and structure and conversation.
