Is the program training for teachers in English or Spanish?
The workshop is held in English. However, the program materials for working with parents are all bilingual.

Who should be trained?
Teachers and parent educators who are planning to implement an effective literacy program for Latino parents.

How many people should be trained at each school site?
We recommend having at least 3 people per school trained. The most successful teams have been a teacher from the school, a parent coordinator and a parent leader.

Is it possible to host a workshop just for our school or district?
Yes. We will be happy to go directly to your district site to train a minimum of 15 candidates. There is no additional charge for this service.

What will I learn at the workshop?
The workshop gives you a cultural competency foundation for successfully working with Latino families and a step-by-step curriculum (including E.S.L. curriculum) that provides everything needed to implement this literacy program. Upon completion of the workshop, the trained facilitator will know exactly how to provide the program and can begin working with parents immediately.

Once I am trained will I be able to train other people?
No, it is a copyrighted program. Once trained, though, you will be eligible to facilitate all of The Latino Family Literacy Project's developmental programs. The curriculum binder is not reproducible and each trainee will sign a copyright agreement that protects the copyright of the program.

Do I really need to order the books?
Yes, it is a reading program based on carefully chosen books that take the social, cultural and linguistic knowledge of Latino families into consideration.

What is in the Literacy Materials Kit?
The Literacy Materials Box contains all materials needed for the daily activities that are part of the literacy program. Please contact our office for a complete list of materials

What is the payment policy?
You need to know the payment policy of your district. We accept Purchase Orders or checks. We do not accept credit cards at this time. You will have until 30 days after the workshop to pay your balance due. However, we also recognize that it takes a while to process payment and will work directly with the contact person upon registration.

Yes, The Latino Family Literacy Project supports Standards regarding word analysis, fluency and systematic vocabulary development, reading comprehension, literacy response and analysis, and listening and speaking strategies. It helps young readers achieve and succeed, as promoted in The No Child Left Behind Act.

Yes, The Latino Family Literacy Project provides its facilitators with an Evaluation tool to be submitted after the program has been completed.
